“Michigan City, Indiana: Businesses & The People That Made Them Prosper” 7:00 PM. at the Museum.
Michigan City sprang from “a place of sand” and grew to a thriving town of large and small businesses. The people who kept them running and made them successes are captured in these over 400, fully indexed pages covering 1832-1890. For three years, the authors collected business names from county and city directories, state gazetteers, newspapers, historical files and publications. Family data was collected from those sources as well as online databases. If you had an ancestor working in Michigan City in these years, you will, likely, find them within these pages. The researchers, Gloria D. Arndt and Dorothy Germain Palmer, have published, separately or with others, a number of La Porte County genealogy and history books.
