A Cozy Cover-Up: A Look at La Porte County Quilts
Quilts are making a come-back for the summer at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum. The quilt display entitled “A Cozy Cover-up: A Look at La Porte County Quilts” will be up for all of June July and August, 2017. They can be found on all levels at the museum. Thanks to Larry Wade for making the quilt racks used in the exhibit.
Featured in the display are Friendship quilts, including one by the ladies of the Presbyterian Church of La Porte from 1878. A Centennial quilt from 1876 is also on display.
In Exhibit Hall on the lower level, the quilts of prominent quilter, Ruth Johnson are featured. Ruth, who passed away in 2004, was the leader of 2 quilting groups for 25 years each: the group at the Swanson Center and also at Bethany Church.
Also featured is the quilt made of the Boy Scout badges, kerchiefs and patches of Dan Bolinger. It is hanging in the Boy Scout display on the lower level of the museum.
