Liberty Theatre, Michigan City, 1950 This photograph of the Liberty Theatre was apparently taken in 1950, the release date of both of the movies being advertised. “The Damned Don’t Cry” featured Joan Crawford and David Brian, and “The Big Lift” starred Montgomery Clift and Paul Douglas. The “COOL” pennants hanging under the marquee are obviously referring to the theatre’s air conditioning system, something not yet common in houses or cars in 1950. The Liberty Theatre was located at 428 Franklin Street, and was later destroyed in a spectacular fire in the dead of winter.
