Welcome to the site of the La Porte County Historical Society Museum! We hope you enjoy your tour and will consider attending in person when you can! La Porte County is rich in history and the wonderful museum reflects that. The La Porte County Historical Society Museum hosts many events and exhibits each year; from re-enacting the Civil War to filling an acre of land with old cars, permanent exhibits to special current exhibits, there is something for everyone!

"Women Making History: Trailblazers of La Porte County"

 

    

  The current display for Fall of 2018 at the La Porte County Historical Society Museum is entitled “Women Making History: Trailblazers of La Porte County.” Featured are 15 amazing women, past and present, who, in their own unique ways, have made a difference in the building of La Porte County History.

   Some of those featured are first woman mayor of La Porte, Kathy Chroback, founder of VNA Hospice for La Porte County, Sandra Kowalski, Unity Foundation President, Maggi Spartz, and first settler in La Porte County, Miriam Benedict. Others include a Civil War nurse, a piano virtuoso, a lighthouse keeper, and a Naval Officer.
